THE LOTUS FLOWER
For this year's loi krathong - an annual full moon festival throughout thailand - bangkok-based
designers apostrophy's have completed a stage and floating structure in udonthani, thailand.
responding to the recent flooding crisis of the region, the project utilizes the presence of the water
to create a three-dimensional canvas on the 'nong prajut' swamp to feature a series of mapping
projections on its surface.
measuring approximately 12 meters in diameter and 7 meters in height, the form of the structure
resembles a lotus flower. the blossoming petals, made from an iron frame wrapped in fabric,
lends a broken, crystallized effect while the central 'bud' acts as the main screen. graphic images
are projected on to the volume and maintains the shape of the form through mapping technology.
stories pertaining to the water resources of king bhumibol and the udonthani region is also featured
throughout the festival.
